Les Cours du BHV
Rue des Archives, Paris
Our new façades on Rue des Archives are the first built work in our phased project for BHV, which restores and revives an historic area of Paris, adjacent to their department store in the Marais district.
In the second phase, a set of historic Haussman courtyards is being transformed into a new retail development. Elegant shop fronts are being created that respect the rhythm and structure of the historic buildings. Original cornices will be retained, and those that have been lost or destroyed will be reinstated. The individuality of each building will be legible but consistency of material and detail will give continuity. The new facades will be detailed in a contemporary way but will be rich in references to their historic context. The use of materials such as bronze frames, Pierre de Taille and stucco, will contribute to the quality and elegance of the new interventions.
With the existing courtyards identifiably domestic in scale, the new proposal adds an urban dimension by inserting new dynamic building elements. Stacked ‘cubes’ will be inhabited by retailers and will give the scale of the city to the historic courtyards.
