Along with concrete I would say that hot-rolled BLACK STEEL has had a constant (one could say obsessive) presence. I’m exploring the pivotal role of materials in the making of our architecture. This week, my posts focus on BRONZE. - Garden Pavilions, 2010: Working closely with landscape designer Tom Stuart Smith we developed a set of pavilions to sit within his gardens, their folded forms made of patinated bronze. I’ve always had an interest in working with materials which are both the structure and the visible surface, and this week my focus is on CONCRETE. - Anderson House, 2002: Client David Anderson commissioned us to design a house inserted into a highly constricted inner block site just off Oxford Street. In situ concrete was the perfect building material, piped in through the 1m-wide access route from the street.
