Following an international selection process, the National Portrait Gallery has appointed Jamie Fobert Architects to lead its £35.5m building project, ‘Inspiring People: Transforming our National Portrait Gallery’. Our work will increase public and gallery spaces, enhance the Gallery’s entrance and create a much improved Learning Centre. For the first time in the Gallery’s history there will be a comprehensive re-display of the Collection across all the galleries, accompanied by an extensive programme of activities nationwide.
Describing this as one of the most exciting chapters in the National Portrait Gallery’s history, the Director, Dr Nicholas Cullinan, said: ‘We were impressed by Jamie’s evident love of the Gallery, its Collections, and building, and the clear vision he had for how to make the most of these for our visitors, as well as his affinity with art and artists.’
We are very much looking forward to working with the Gallery’s dynamic team, in collaboration with our highly skilled partners, heritage specialists Purcell, and engineers Max Fordham and Price & Myers.
