Works have now commenced on site at the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
The First Light project will transform the visitor experience by improving arrival and navigation, introducing a new entrance pavilion and a beautifully landscaped walkway. A new access stair and lift for the historic Great Equatorial Telescope building will, for the first time, enable all visitors to access one of the world’s largest refracting telescopes. The new Astronomers’ Court will provide a space for exhibitions and live science demonstrations, creating new opportunities for learning and engagement.
The site will close to visitors from 2 November, and is scheduled to reopen following its transformation in Summer 2027.
