We first designed Selfridges’ Women’s Shoe Galleries in 2010. A few years and many thousands of shoe sales on, we have given the Galleries a fresh look, with new design concepts and emphasis on sustainability.
In Gallery 2, fragmented and interlocking grey and white shapes form a set of mid-floor display tables and perimeter shelves. They are built from 100% recycled plastic—primarily yoghurt pots and plastic packaging.
In Gallery 5, multiple layers of recycled glass panels have been cast on top of one another and added to existing steel display fixtures, giving them a translucent effect.
Throughout the Shoe Galleries, the flooring is French Oak, laid in a gentle bespoke pattern within the retail display areas and in a distinctive herringbone pattern to mark out the walkways.
Our new sneaker walls, in Gallery 3, offer a striking display for Selfridges' extensive selection of women’s sneakers. Vertical bands of stainless steel have been folded to form individual display shelves. The vapour-blasted finish of stainless steel on multiple facets creates soft reflections, picking up the bright colours of sneakers. The overall effect is of a wave or ripple along the shoe gallery perimeter.
